Etsy my account: how to log in
Etsy at a glance
Founded in June 2005 in a Brooklyn, New York apartment by Rob Kalin, Chris Maguire and Haoyi Wei, Etsy has grown from a tiny experiment in peer-to-peer commerce into one of the world's most distinctive online marketplaces. While the giants of e-commerce compete on price and speed, Etsy carved out its own niche around handmade goods, vintage items (20 years or older) and craft supplies. Today, the company is headquartered in the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard and operates a global marketplace that connects roughly 95 million active buyers with more than 7 million active sellers across more than 230 countries.
For shoppers, Etsy is the place to find a one-of-a-kind wedding ring, a personalized birthday gift, a 1970s vintage lamp or a stack of digital downloads for a craft project. For sellers, it is a complete e-commerce platform with listings, payment processing, advertising, analytics, shipping labels and customer messaging — all unlocked behind a single Etsy login. Whether you shop a few times a year or run a full-time shop with hundreds of orders a week, this guide will walk you through every way to access your account safely.
How to log in to etsy.com
The most common path to your account is the website at etsy.com. Always type the URL by hand in your browser to avoid phishing sites that mimic Etsy's branding.
- Open your browser and go to etsy.com.
- Click Sign in in the top right corner of the homepage.
- Enter the email address linked to your account.
- Type your password and click Sign in.
- If 2-step verification is turned on, enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app or SMS.
- You arrive on your personalized homepage with recommended shops, recent activity and your favorites.
Etsy uses a single account for both buying and selling. As soon as you decide to open a shop, your existing buyer profile is upgraded — there is no need to create a second login.
Logging in from the Etsy mobile app
The official Etsy app is available for free on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android). It offers a curated shopping experience optimized for touch, with personalized push notifications when shops you love drop new items or run sales.
- Install the "Etsy" app published by Etsy, Inc. Be careful to download the official app and not a clone.
- Open the app and tap Sign in.
- Enter your email and password, or use one of the social sign-in buttons.
- Complete the 2-step verification challenge if prompted.
- Enable Face ID, Touch ID or Android biometric login to skip the password on future sessions.
The Etsy Seller app
If you run a shop, the dedicated Etsy Seller app is a must-have. It is a separate download from the buyer-facing Etsy app, available on iOS and Android. Sellers use it to manage listings on the go, reply to buyer messages within Etsy's recommended 24-hour window, ship orders, print labels, run Etsy Ads, and check daily sales statistics. The login uses the same email and password as your main Etsy account, and the same 2-step verification settings.
- Download the "Etsy Seller" app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Tap Sign in and enter your shop credentials.
- Confirm the 2-step verification code.
- Pick the shop you want to manage if you have more than one.
Signing in with Google, Apple or Facebook
Etsy supports three popular single sign-on options so you do not have to remember another password:
- Google Sign-In: click Continue with Google, pick the Google account you want to use, and grant the requested permissions. This is the most popular method on Android devices and in Chrome.
- Apple Sign-In: click Continue with Apple. You can choose to share or hide your real email address — Apple will create a private relay address if you prefer to stay anonymous.
- Facebook Sign-In: click Continue with Facebook and approve the requested permissions. Make sure your Facebook account itself is protected by two-factor authentication, otherwise an attacker who hijacks your Facebook also gets into Etsy.
If you mix and match social sign-in with classic email/password, make sure to set a password in Account settings → Security so you can still log in if Google, Apple or Facebook is temporarily unavailable.
What you can do as a buyer once logged in
Buyers unlock a rich set of features behind their Etsy login:
- Orders: review every purchase from the last 5+ years, track shipments, request a refund or contact the seller directly.
- Favorites: save items and entire shops to private or public lists; perfect for wishlists, mood boards or gift inspiration.
- Conversations: message sellers to ask about custom orders, sizes, materials or shipping. The inbox is the central channel for buyer-seller communication.
- Etsy Coupons: apply promo codes from sellers, Etsy newsletters or the "Special offers" section of an item page.
- Gift cards: buy digital Etsy gift cards from $25 to $500, redeem them in your wallet, and use the balance toward any purchase on the site.
- Address book: save multiple shipping addresses for home, office and gift recipients.
- Recommendations: a personalized homepage that learns from your favorites, purchases and recent searches.
What you can do as a seller once logged in
Sellers access a complete back office known as Shop Manager, available on the web and as the Etsy Seller app:
- Listings: create, edit, copy and renew listings (each listing costs $0.20 USD for 4 months); add photos, videos, variations and personalization options.
- Orders & Shipping: mark orders as shipped, buy discounted USPS, UPS, FedEx and Canada Post labels, and send tracking information automatically to buyers.
- Stats: daily and lifetime views, visits, orders, conversion rate, revenue and top traffic sources.
- Etsy Ads: set a daily budget (from $1 to $25+) to promote your listings inside Etsy search and across Google, Facebook and Pinterest via Offsite Ads.
- Marketing: create sales, coupon codes, abandoned cart emails and "Thank you" coupons for returning buyers.
- Etsy Plus: an optional $10/month subscription that unlocks advanced shop customization, restock requests, discounted custom domains, and $5 USD in Etsy Ads credits per month.
- Finances: deposit history, 1099-K tax documents, payment account settings and VAT/Sales Tax handling.
Managing multiple shops
Etsy allows experienced sellers to operate more than one shop, each with its own brand, name and listings. Each shop must have a distinct email address, but you can switch between them quickly from the shop selector in the top right of Shop Manager. Many craft sellers use this to separate, for example, a printable-art shop from a physical-product shop, or to test a new brand without confusing returning buyers.
When you log in, Etsy will ask you to confirm which shop you want to manage. The 2-step verification settings, security alerts and reviews are tied to the account, not to an individual shop, which makes it easier to keep everything safe behind a single login.
2-step verification on Etsy
2-step verification (2SV) adds a second proof of identity on top of your password. Once enabled, a stolen password alone is not enough to access your account — the attacker would also need the temporary code from your phone or authenticator app. Etsy strongly recommends this feature, especially for sellers who handle real money every day.
To turn it on, sign in and go to Account settings → Security → Two-factor authentication. Etsy supports:
- Authenticator app (recommended): Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, Duo and any TOTP-compatible app.
- SMS text message to a verified mobile phone number.
After setup, Etsy displays a list of backup codes. Print them or store them in your password manager. They are your safety net if you lose your phone, change your number, or wipe your device.
Resetting your password
If you forget your password, you can reset it in less than two minutes:
- Go to etsy.com and click Sign in.
- Click Forgot your password?
- Enter the email address linked to your account.
- Open the email Etsy sends you and click the reset link (valid for 24 hours).
- Pick a strong new password — at least 12 characters mixing letters, digits and symbols, unique to Etsy.
If the email never arrives, check your spam folder and confirm you typed the correct address. If you have lost access to the email itself, contact Etsy Support and be ready to verify your identity with a government-issued ID and proof of recent shop activity.
Account suspended or under review
Etsy may temporarily suspend or place a hold on an account for several reasons: unpaid seller fees, suspected policy violations (e.g. listing items that are not handmade, vintage or craft supplies), intellectual-property complaints, or unusual login activity. When this happens, you typically see a banner inviting you to verify your identity or settle a balance.
To recover access, follow the instructions in the official notification from Etsy (always start from etsy.com, never from a random email link). You may be asked to upload an ID, provide a recent utility bill, or share supplier invoices that prove the authenticity of your products. Never pay a third party who claims to "unlock" your shop — that is a classic scam.
Star Seller status
Etsy's Star Seller program rewards shops that consistently provide an excellent buyer experience. Once per month, Etsy looks at your performance over the past 3 months and grants the badge if you meet three criteria: a fast first-message response time (under 24 hours), a high on-time shipping rate with tracking, and an average 5-star review rating. The badge appears next to your shop name on listings, in search results and in messages, which can significantly improve buyer trust and conversion rates.
Customer service
Etsy's support team is available worldwide in multiple languages:
- Help Center: help.etsy.com offers thousands of articles for both buyers and sellers.
- Contact form: sign in to your account, open the Help Center and click Contact support at the bottom of any article. You can choose between email and live chat depending on the topic.
- Etsy Concierge: a premium support channel reserved for Etsy Plus subscribers, with prioritized response times.
- X (Twitter): @EtsyHelp answers public and private messages, usually within a few hours.
Security tips for your Etsy account
- Use a unique password generated by a password manager.
- Enable 2-step verification with an authenticator app rather than SMS when possible.
- Be skeptical of emails that claim "your shop is about to be deleted" or "click here to confirm your bank details" — Etsy never asks for full payment information by email.
- Review the list of connected devices in Security regularly and sign out any session you do not recognize.
- For sellers, never share your password with virtual assistants — invite them as a separate user (where supported) or change the password as soon as the collaboration ends.
Troubleshooting common Etsy login problems
Wrong password loop
If Etsy keeps rejecting your password, make sure Caps Lock is off, the keyboard layout matches what you used at sign-up, and that you are typing the right email address. After three failed attempts, request a password reset rather than locking yourself out.
2-step verification code not received
Check that your phone has signal, request a new SMS, or switch to the authenticator app. If you no longer have access to the phone, use one of the backup codes you generated when enabling 2SV.
Social sign-in conflict
If you originally signed up with Facebook but later changed your Facebook email, Etsy may no longer recognize the connection. Sign in once with email and password from a desktop, then re-link Facebook from Account settings → Privacy and connected apps.
Multi-shop confusion
If you accidentally log in to the wrong shop, simply open the shop selector in the top right of Shop Manager and switch — there is no need to sign out completely.
Frequently asked questions
I forgot my Etsy password — what now?
Click Forgot your password? on the sign-in page, enter your email address, and follow the link Etsy emails to you. The link is valid for 24 hours.
Can I switch between buyer and seller mode?
Yes. Your buyer profile and your seller shop share a single login. From the website, click your avatar and pick Shop Manager; from the app, install the dedicated Etsy Seller app and sign in with the same credentials.
How do I open a shop on Etsy?
Sign in, go to Sell on Etsy in the footer, and follow the wizard. You will pick a shop name, set up payment methods, configure shipping, and create your first listing. The listing fee is $0.20 USD and there is a 6.5% transaction fee on each sale, plus payment processing fees.
What are the benefits of Etsy Plus?
Etsy Plus costs $10 USD per month and includes 15 listing credits, $5 in Etsy Ads credits, restock request notifications for sold-out items, a discounted custom web domain, and advanced shop customization options such as new banner templates and featured listings.
How do I become a Star Seller?
Maintain three criteria over a 3-month period: respond to first messages within 24 hours, ship on time with tracking, and keep an average review rating of 4.8 stars or higher. Etsy reviews your stats on the first of each month and awards the badge automatically.
Can I delete my Etsy account?
Yes, from Account settings → Permanently close account. If you have an active shop, you need to put it in vacation mode and finish processing pending orders before closing. The closure is permanent and removes access to messages, reviews, favorites and order history.
